The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-N`suaem has disclosed that one person has been arrested by the Police in connection with the attack on him and his family over the weekend.
Mireku Duker said the suspect is currently in police custody.
“The Police was brought in after the incident and they arrested the suspect,” he said on JoyNews’ Front Desk Monday.
The family of the MP was attacked on Saturday at about 3 pm.
The MP narrated that the incident was sparked when a knife was pulled on a boy over suspicion that he was recording the thugs who perpetuated the act, while they were misbehaving at a funeral.
“We normally have funerals in front of one of our family houses. So one boy, between the ages of 10 and 13 was around holding a phone when the thugs were misbehaving.
“Thinking that the small boy was recording them, one of the thugs called the boy to bring his phone for them to check whether or not he was recording.
The MP stated that while the phone was being inspected, one of the thugs pulled out a knife on the boy.
“So one of my nephews questioned them on why they were attacking the young boy and that provoked them,” he said.
He added that a lady who was also at the scene was not forgiven when she questioned the thugs on why they were carrying out the attacks.
The MP said following the attack, his family has been moved out of Dompin to ensure their safety.
He, however, says four others are still on the run.
It could be recalled that two persons sustained life-threatening injuries from a chieftaincy clash that erupted on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Dompim-Pepesa, a farming community in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
The Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent George Andrew Kumah confirming the incident said the victims sustained severe cutlass wounds after a funeral ceremony.
Chief Superintendent Kumah further explained that the incident was on the back of an ensuing chieftaincy dispute in the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Benjamin Kesse in an interview accused the police of not being professional and shielding the perpetrators.
“The MP and I are not safe because the police haven’t been professional, I was attacked some weeks ago and reported the incident to the police, I went to the hospital and submitted the police medical form, the police are yet to arrest the perpetrators”, He lamented.
He said failure on the part of the police in Tarkwa to bring the perpetrators to book has emboldened them to do more.
