RansBoat & Company limited a leading brand in farm products has launched a 100,000 fertiliser warehouse and poultry farm at Kofisah in the Nsawam / Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region.
RansBoat & Company Ltd, a beneficiary of government flagship programme, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) and Rearing for Food and Jobs (RFJ) is one of key distributors of hybrid seeds and fertilizers in the country operating in four different regions, Ashanti, Bono East, Bono and now Eastern.
Speaking at the ceremony to officially launch the facility, the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour said as part of government’s effort to ensure food security he initiated the Planting for Foods and Jobs which has been very instrumental in the abundance of food in the country.
The Minister thanked RansBoat for bringing some relief to farmers in the Kwahu Afram Plains when the company in partnership with YARA Ghana and RMG GHANA acquired a warehouse at Maame Krobo to distribute Agrochemicals, improved hybrid seeds and fertilizers.
He, therefore, gave the assurance that the Regional Coordinating Council and for that matter the government would continue to support the company to flourish in order to ensure sustainable growth in the Agriculture sector.
Also speaking at the launch, the General Manager of RansBoat & Company Limited, Teddy Addae stressed that it’s their aim to become a leading company in agribusiness industry in Ghana and beyond adding that the company has contributed massively to the agricultural inputs of the country.
He added that the company will create more employment to reduce unemployment.
“We will do our best to reduce unemployment and also help the government’s agenda to promote food security in the country. Having said that, the poultry industry is faced with many challenges, among them; the outbreak of disease, access to finance among others. We have also created 300 direct and indirect jobs for retailers and off-takers across the country” he said.
According to the management of the company, the poultry farm which started in 2018 with 5,000 birds has 62, 000 birds currently.
He added that their projection of 100,000 birds by the end of the year 2020 would not able to achieve because of the effects of COVID-19 hoping that their target would be realised by the second quarter of next.
They, however, appealed to government to give them a tax-free holiday on the importation of poultry machinery in order to expand their capacity.
RansBoat & Company Limited started in 2013 as a startup distributor for Yara Ghana and RMG Ghana fertilisers and seeds.
The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Samuel Aye Paye thanked the company for providing jobs for the youth in the area.
He, however, bemoaned the activities of illegal sand wining in the area which was affecting farmers and called on all stakeholders to help address the menace.
