…Extorts Money From SHS Accountants To Grant Them Immunity From Transfers
The New Crusading GUIDE has gathered from sources within the Brong Ahafo Regional Education Directorate that the Regional Accountant, Mr. Amponsah, is allegedly using his authority to the transfer schools’ Accountants without recourse to his superiors.
Information has it that Senior High School Accountants within the Brong Ahafo region who have served within a period of seven (7) years and over are paying huge sums of monies to the Regional Education Accountant for their stay at the expenses of those who have stayed for 2 and 3 years and are being transferred without any tangible reasons.
The source also confirmed that the Brong Ahafo Region Education Accountant, who is an in-law to the Deputy Director General of GES Lawyer Anthony Boateng, is running affairs in the regional educational directorate for which reason he claims he is untouchable.
This paper gathered that the Accountant’s conduct which staff of the Directorate said has gone on for years, has created numerous problem for the Regional Education Directors including Mr. Assibey who was transferred.
Information gathered also revealed that, when Mr. Amponsah was at the Eastern Regional Education Directorate, he created similar problems for the regional director before his transfer to the Greater Accra Region and his subsequent transfer to the Brong Ahafo Region.
Our checks revealed that most of the corrupt practices currently going on in some Senior High Schools in the region especially, allegations of extortion of unapproved monies from students is being spearhead by the regional accountant together with some school heads, some school administrators and WAEC officials in the region.
It has emerged that the position of the Sumaman SHS Accountant, who was on sick leave has been taken over by the Regional Education Accountant instead of the District Accountant.
Staff of the Education Directorate however questioned the rationale behind the transfers being made by the Regional Education Accountant without the say so of his superiors at the GES headquarters.
This, according to them, clearly shows the extent to which the regional accountant and the auditor are willing to go just to dent the image and the credibility of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service.
All effort to get in touch with Mr. Amponsah to respond to the allegations proved futile.
