Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has won the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary, securing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast.
The former Vice President polled 100,643 votes nationwide, defeating his closest contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who garnered 46,554 votes—representing 23.76 per cent.
The results, announced after the completion of sorting and collation, officially confirm Dr. Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
His victory is expected to trigger an early start to the party’s rebuilding and campaign efforts ahead of the polls.
Dr. Bawumia contested the primary alongside four other aspirants: former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; and businessman and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
