Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, has appealed to delegates to place their confidence in his leadership and vote for him.
He said the decision delegates make would have far-reaching consequences for both the party and the country, stressing the need to elect a candidate with a proven track record in governance and economic management.
Dr. Bawumia appealed while addressing NPP delegates and supporters in the Asawase Constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
According to Dr Bawumia, the party must present a candidate with experience and demonstrable results in key sectors critical to national development if it hopes to regain power.
As part of his vision for party reorganisation, he announced plans to introduce a Database Welfare System (DBWS) to consolidate and provide easy access to information on party members.
He also pledged that, under his leadership, 3,000 out of the 7,000 governance appointments would be allocated to constituencies to promote equity and inclusiveness.
Additionally, Dr Bawumia proposed the introduction of a Constituency-Based Budget System to properly document and promptly address challenges specific to each constituency.
Citing findings from internal party committee reports, he attributed the NPP’s recent electoral defeat to what he described as a “one-man-chop syndrome,” assuring delegates that such practices would not be repeated under his leadership.
He called on party members to unite and urged delegates to entrust him with the mandate to lead the party forward.
During the visit, Dr Bawumia also facilitated reconciliation among Manaf Ibrahim, Alidu Seidu and Ali Suraj, who had previously had differences.
He was accompanied on the tour by former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Kofi Jumah, Collins Ntim, Simon Osei Mensah, Ben Abdullah Banda, Saalim Bamba, Dr Ayew Afriyie, Kennedy Kankam and Alhaji Mohammed Moro.
