It was all excitement on Saturday when the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development hosted the Black Stars team at the newly constructed state-of-the-art Astro Turf Sports Complex (Zurak Park) in Madina, for training.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Madina constituency, Hon. Abuabakar
Boniface and the Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Hon. Dr.
Mustapha Abdul Hamid were present together with some community leaders to
support the Black Stars as they prepared for the Nations Cup qualifier against
Sao Tome and Principe today, Monday.
The team was training for the first time at the newly constructed Astro Turf in
Madina, build under the leadership of Hon. Abubakar Boniface who ensured that
the turf was constructed for the community during his time as Minister for
Inner Cities and Zongo development.
Several football fans also came out in numbers to watch the Black Stars train
at the Zurak Park.
The Black Stars continued their training at the same venue before leaving for
Sao Tome and Principe yesterday for today’s match.
The Ghana senior national team has rekindled the love of the citizenry after
defeating South Africa in the opening game of the group stage of the qualifiers
to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Ghana beat South Africa 2-0 in the opening game of the qualifiers through goals
from Thomas Partey and debutant Kudus Mohammed.
The incredible number of fans added to the thousands that showed up at the
team’s training in Cape Coast and subsequently for the game against South
Africa.
The team received massive support from persons in the Madina Community after
returning to Accra to start training for another AFCON qualifier against Sao
Tome and Principe.
The players commended the MP and Wembley Sports Complex Construction Limited
(WSCCL) for constructing such State of the Art Facility.
They described the park as excellent and of standard and prayed that the youth
would take full advantage of the facility and build their skills.
