Residents of McCarthy Hill South, Panbros, Menskrom, Salvation, Wiaboman and nearby communities have expressed frustration about the perennial flooding in the area due to the blocking of a drainage systems.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Assembly Member for McCarthy Hill South, Honourable, Clement Adjei said the situation has been exacerbated by the activities of one Robert Tang of VVIP motors, a Chinese national with the support of some government officials.
According to honourable Clement Adjei, the Chinese businessman has blocked the Baale river and when confronted he surprisingly sent NADMO officials to confront the community leaders. He said though a meeting was head between the parties it could not help to resolve the issue.
“Robert Tang Yartey , Abu Ramadan and, Sarkin Abubakar and myself met the Municipal Chief Executive, honourable Patrick Kumor in his office last year to try and resolve the issue ,” hon Adjei lamented.
As I speak to you every sign post erected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been pulled down by this Chinese businessman and the Weija Gbawe assembly led by hon Patrick Kumor is doing nothing to protect human lives.
It emerged that Panbros has suffered in recent times from another Chinese project (China Mall).
They put proper drainage system in place before construction.
A couple of months ago they emptied their waste material in the rainy season to the Panbros yard which affected their business.
