The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, has refreshing assurance for Cocoa farmers in the country, that their welfare would be his topmost priority.
The COCOBOD Chief made this known during his interaction with the leadership of Cocoa farmers across the country in his office in Accra yesterday.
He noted that the best way the cocoa industry would be upgraded is when farmers are projected devoid of discrimination.
The Cocoa industry, Dr. Abbey noted, is the backbone of Ghana’s economy and, therefore, disclosed that the current government would do everything possible to ensure the sustainability of the industry.
He promised the Cocoa farmers of President John Dramani’s readiness in making the cocoa industry more vibrant to help maintain Ghana’s international recognition with regard to cocoa production.
“I am ready to work with you as cocoa farmers, and I therefore plead with all of you to regard me as your son and a brother in my tenure in office,” Dr. Abbey stated.
He declared his readiness to visit all cocoa growing communities across the country in some few weeks to abreast himself with challenges confronting the farmers for redress.
“We cannot think of enhancing the cocoa sector without responding to climate change issues as a nation,” Dr. Abbey noted.
For his part, President of Ghana Cocoa Farmers Association, Nana Charles Gyamfi, thanked the COCOBOD CEO for the opportunity to interact with him and assured him of their support.
He was confident that the newly appointed CEO of COCOBOD would ensure that challenges facing cocoa farmers in Ghana were addressed for the great benefit of the country.
Nana Gyamfi, however, charged Dr. Abbey to use his experience to ensure that cocoa smuggling becomes a thing of the past during his tenure of office.
