The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled one Stephen Marvin Cobbinah a member of the party in Kwesimintsim from the party for violating the party’s regulation that enjoins members to abide by and publicly uphold the decision of the Party.
The decision to expel Stephen Marvin Cobbinah was taken pursuant to Article 4(4) (2) of the amended Constitution of the NPP, 1992, after it was clear that aside Stephen Marvin Cobbinah’s inability to uphold party decisions publicly, he also violated the duty of a member to protect the unity of the party, and also the duty of a member to participate fully in the activities of the Party and ensure that the local organs of the Party work effectively.
He has also been accused of creating discord or factionalism within the party in breach of Article 4(7)(1)(f) of the NPP Constitution, 2017.
Stephen Marvin Cobbinah (aka Yaw Marvin) authored a social media publication titled; “The Reason Kwesimintsim Needs Change” in which he deliberately made wild and unsubstantiated allegations against the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwesimintsim using “all manner of unprintable words to describe him whilst openly campaigning for another person.”
This, Mr Jerry Hanson indicated, was contrary to the NPP Constitution 2017 and the code of conduct for pre-presidential and parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary primaries issued by the party on July 27, 2021 currently on force.
He said: “The petition filed as per article 4(5) of NPP Constitution 2017 was duly forwarded to the CDC after receipt from the petitioner. The CDC in fulfilment of its constitutional mandate as enshrined in Article 4(4)(1) extended to him in writing an invitation to appear before it to respond to the allegations levelled against him.”
The Kwesimintsim NPP Constituency Chairman, in a letter dated 28 June, 2023 signed by him on how the party arrived at the decision of the member explained, that the Constituency Executive Committee (CEC) held a meeting on 26th June 2023 having received the Constituency Disciplinary Committee’s (CDC) Report and recommendations, following a petition by a Polling Station Executive.
Meanwhile, Stephen Marvin Cobbinah, according to the Chairman in rage responded to the CDC through a WhatsApp audio describing the CDC saying, “Massa you are not serious, get something meaningful to do. Fool, you are inviting me for what? Animal, does NPP buy food for me in the morning, afternoon and evening? Does Kwesimintsim NPP buy food for me to eat? Why do you people like fooling like that?
The party also averred that beyond his utter disdain towards the party’s CDC, his conduct sought to create discord within the constituency party and to fragrantly disrespect existing party policy guiding the conduct of parliamentary primaries.
The party through the CEC and in accordance with Article 4(4)(2) and 4(7)(2) unanimously accepted the CDC’s recommendation for Mr. Stephen Marvin Cobbinah’s expulsion from the party.
However, the party noted that the sanction could be reviewed premised on his satisfactory conduct in the future.
