Executives, Council of Elders, Electoral Area Coordinators and grassroot campaigners of Ayensuano Constituency are blaming the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Florence Govina for the loss of the parliamentary seat in the area.
They bemoaned that the Ayensuano parliamentary seat which happens to be one of the safest seats in the Eastern Region was lose to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to the influence of the DCE and her cohorts to realize their ill-perceived agenda.
According to the party, the DCE before, during and after the 2020 elections, the DCE did everything possible to avoid or be part of the campaign and in the few occasions that she passed by, she refused to campaign for even the President let alone the Member of Parliament (MP).
“She never mounted any platform to campaign, not even in her home community to influence her tribe to vote for the president. No wonder we recorded one of the worst electoral defeat in her own town and within the entire Ewe communities across the constituency,” they stated in a Press Statement they read at a media briefing.
According to them, the party could not win even one polling station in her electoral area including her own polling station both in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
“She could not even talk about the achievements of the government and the need to vote for her party, NPP and even, Mr. President, let alone, the Member of Parliament in the presence of our Polling Station Executives; Electoral Area Coordinators and some Constituency Officers,” they claimed.
They also accused the DCE of keeping all freebies supplied by the party for onward distribution and gave them out only after the general elections.
“Your Excellency, similar items, as allocated by the party, was seen being distributed by the Independent Contesting Candidate, whom she is alleged to be aligned to, to campaign against you and our great party.”
“Sir, we are bringing these two personalities into the picture because we are reliably informed that they are going about with some Chiefs who are not known members of our party lobbying to be considered as the next DCE of our dear district. Their actions and posture show gross disrespect to the Constituency Executives and the party structures.”
The constituency Executives are therefore calling for an independent investigation into the actions and inactions of their now acting DCE, Hon. Florence Govina.
According to them, they do not want her to be retained as DCE in this new term of office of the party as they believe her continuous stay in office will further endanger the party’s chances in any future elections.
Attempts to reach the DCE proved futile. Stay tuned.
