The National Democratic Congress'(NDC) dominance in the Ashaiman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region is likely to suffer a major jolt in this year’s election as Alhaji Labaran Yakubu Barry, the parliament candidate on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is poised to secure victory for his party in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The messages of Alhaji Labaran seems to have gone down well with the constituents who appear ready to give him the mandate in the elections.
The NDC has since 1992 dominated the area but with little developmental projects to match.
The personality of Alhaji Labaran and the performance of President Nana Akufo -Addo however, seem to have changed the perception and political minds of the electorates.
The area has over the years been faced with developmental challenges and the electorates are ready to change their voting pattern owing to the performance of the current government.
Prior to his elections as the parliamentary candidate of the constituency, Alhaji Labaran had begun some developmental projects which included the fixing of street lights along some streets in the Municipality.
Speaking to the media, the PC hopeful disclosed his plans to establish the Ashaiman Development Fund to help the needy in the area.
He also mentioned that when voted to power, he would establish a legal and security aid office to help curb the security challenge currently faced by the people of the area.
Another area worth developing in the constituency, according to Alhaji Labaran, is the Tourism industry, where he disclosed that the Ashaiman Constituency has about 48 tribes and each of them has a unique characteristics as well as a diverse cultural heritage which needs to be developed further.
