A police Commander at the National Police Command, ACP Lydia Yaaka Donkor had allegedly led a demolition exercise at East Legon, to pull down properties legally acquired by one Prophetess Deborah Banahene.
The exercise was at the behest of the said Commander who hired excavators and earth-moving machines to the site for the demolition when indeed the land in contention is said to belong to Deborah Banahene.
Information reaching this paper soon after the ‘illegal’ demolition exercise indicate that Prophetess Deborah Banahene acquired the land in 1996 from the Ashong Mlitse Family of The Odaitei Tse We of Teshie Accra.
After buying the land, she divided it into two parts and built a house on part of it in 1998 and left the rest for future use.
She also acquired indenture over the land in the year 2000, and around the year 2005.
Interestingly, another family came forward with a court order that they had won a case against the first family, and that they own the land currently.
Prophetess Deborah Banahene had to pay the said family again for the same parcel of land and in 2013 she was approached and claimed that the land belonged to Ibrahim Mahama.
Information revealed that, upon the confrontation, Ibrahim Mahama asked Deborah Banahene to evacuate the land at the time she was working on her documentation.
In the process of her working on the registration of the land at the Lands Commission, it was made known that Ibrahim Mahama had registered the land under his name and given it to ACP Lydia Yaaka Donkor.
Deborah Banahene took the issue to Accra Regional headquarters, and Enoch Francis Anom (The head of the family who sold the land to her) after she was informed that the land belongs to Ibrahim Mahama.
She took the issue to court so they could change the name on the title to her name.
Meanwhile, ACP Lydia Yaaka Donkor went to Deborah Banahene’s lawyer several times to ask her to sell the land to her.
Information is that she refused to sell the said land to the Commander and as a result, the Commander is using intimidation and aggression to take the land away from her because she claims she is in possession of the title until 14th of July, 2023, the Commander brought police officers to the land to destroy the house belonging to Deborah Banahene and harassed her and some residents.
Documents including an indenture and Lease Agreement revealed that the said land was leased by Enoch Francis Annan Acquah to by Head and Lawful representation of Okpong We family of Tesihe to Deborah Banahene.
Prophetess Deborah Banahene who is peeved about the development expressed great disappointment in the Ghana Police Service for allowing its officers to be used for such unlawful exercise without verifying the authenticity of any of the documents tendered by the said ACP.
Meanwhile, effort to reach ACP Lydia Yaaka Donkor on the issue proved futile.
