e-Ananse has engaged some female head potters popularly known as ‘Kayayei’ at its library in Osu, Accra.
The event which took place last Friday saw about 30 Kayayei being taught good moral lessons. They also had the opportunity to access the books at the e-Ananse library.
The engagement was to inspire the adolescent Kayayei to make informed decisions, improve their economic status and reduce their vulnerability irrespective of the challenges.
Two videos were streamed for the Kayayei, one was a folktale in which the proverbial Ananse tried to steal all the wisdom of the world and the other was on the origin of the popular Northern attire called the Fugu.
After the video streaming the kayayei were able to draw moral lessons in the folktale, they also got to know everything about the Fugu which they didn’t know before.
”The girls learned a very great lesson, the videos inspired them. They have not adhered to such an atmosphere of a library before. I suggest more of this should be done to empower the girls more”, Adam Mohammed, a leader of the Kayayei said in an interview with the media.
”The idea is a loadable one since we are lacking the idea of more libraries in the country, this is a bold step to help these young girls for future greatness. They witnessed everything, the videos played, the stories told, they got the understanding and got inspired afterward” Adam Mohammed, who is an Assistant Leader, Success Book Club added.
According to him, the interaction also helped to improve the confidence level of the young girls.
e-Ananse plans to engage the Kayayei monthly to inspire and empower them through video streaming and book reading sessions.
