The newly installed Amanneɛhene of Edubiase,Kwame Adjei, has sworn the customary oath to the OguahyiaOduroPaninBirikorangEdubiasehene under the stool name Nana Osei Kwame II, at “Dwaberem” at the Oguahyia Palace in New Edubiase of Ashanti region.
Nana Osei Kwame II, 38, successor to Nana Osei Kwame I, who traveled about fifth teen 15 years ago held the “Mponponsuo”, the state sword in his right hand, espoused the greatness, achievements and conquests of his ancestors and pledge to blaze their trail and that“If I fail to continue the exploits of my ancestors and fail in my duty I contravene the Great Oath of OguahyiaKwesiada.”
The enthusiastic crowd that had gathered there immediately mobbed Nana Osei Kwame. Bare-chested, the youth carried him on their shoulders, while women besmeared him with powder amidst singing of praises, drumming and dancing. It took the security a hard time to erect human wallto protect the chief from the ecstatic crowd who wanted to have glimpse at the new Amanneɛhene.
OguahyiaOduroPaninBirikorangEdubiaseHene, urged him to exhibit a high sense of honesty, humidity and transparency and offer positive leadership to win the confidence and respect of the his people.
He however cautioned him against complacency and advised him to strive to continue to unite the people to ensure peace, stability and rapid development to improve the living standard of the people of Edubiaseman.
Nana Osei Kwame II promised to hold in high esteem the customs and traditions of Edubiase particularly puberty rites (Bragoro) saying,“I will bring back Bragoro. I believe that the recent phenomenon of teenage pregnancy and its related abortions are as a result of young girls not being taken through Bragoro. I will visit schools in the traditional area and teach young girls the importance of the rite.”
He also promised to draw clear lines between his Christian life and that of his traditional, so it does not conflict. He promised to give to Caesar what is due him and to God what is due him, just as Jesus instructed in the Bible as Customs and traditions are a very important aspect of human lives that God give credence to.
Queen Mother of Edubiase traditional area,Nana AkuaDwum II, also advised the newly enstooled Amanneɛhene and her subjects to hold in high esteem customs and traditions as it is the backbone of every society. She stressed that the many social vices happening currently, especially the ritual killings are as a result of people neglecting traditions. She further stated that her belief is that if people go back to their roots, such cankers will be eschewed.
Nana Osei Kwame II,known in private life as Mr. Kwame Adjei is a successful businessman. He is the Chief Executive Officer of SMET mining and Engineering. He is 38 years old,a youth and succeeded Nana Osei Kwame I, who vacated the seat about 15 years ago.
