The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency following disputes surrounding the December 7, 2024, General Election results.
In a press release signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC revealed that the decision was made after a follow-up meeting with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday, July 1.
The dispute arose after the NDC challenged the authenticity of scanned Pink Sheets used for collation in 37 polling stations, alleging they lacked sufficient verification and were provided by the NPP. The NPP countered that the Pink Sheets were verified by both party agents and that only three polling station results were outstanding.
The EC clarified that the physical Pink Sheets were destroyed when party supporters stormed the collation centre. Upon review, the Commission found that 19 of the 37 scanned Pink Sheets were not verified by Presiding Officers, warranting a rerun in those stations. The remaining 18 were validated by both agents and officials, and thus will stand.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, with the EC assuring the public of a transparent, fair, and peaceful process. The Ghana Police Service will provide security to maintain order during the exercise.
