The Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Adutwum, has stated that education is the sure way Ghana could do away with poverty, hence President Akufo-Addo government’s making education more accessible and equitable for all.
According to him, the government is providing STEM and laboratories to various Senior High Schools across the country in the long run in order to improve learning outcomes and quality education.
During an inspection tour of schools in the Ahafo Region, the Minister stated that STEM education provides students with opportunities for good careers in the future.
He therefore encouraged students to have a growth mindset and to cultivate the habit of achieving excellence, adding that government is prepared to assist low-performing schools through various interventions.
The Minister indicated that these interventions would take the form of logistics and other support to ensure performance turnaround.
The schools visited by the Minister included: Ahafoman Senior High Technical School, Akrodie STEM High School, Serwaa Kese Girls SHS, and Fawohoyeden Youth Leadership and Skills Training Institute.
He assured that such working visits would be replicated in other regions to inspect educational developments in each region so that the government could have first-hand knowledge of challenges to solve.
Dr. Adutwum said the government was retooling schools, pointing out that some E-Block schools (Community Day Senior High Schools) had been equipped with furniture, laboratories, and dormitories.
“The Aflao E-Block has been fully furnished, and many of such have received logistical support,” he intimated.
