The embattled former Ghana Olympic Committee third vice President Evans Yeboah has reportedly made full payment of the ¢12, 000 he took from a young woman to facilitate her travel outside the country.
According to the Police, Yeboah allegedly made the full payment weeks ago to avoid the prospect of being charged with visa fraud in the courts.
The New Crusading Guide is unable to independently verify whether Yeboah has truly refunded all the amount of money owed to the complainant as the complainant has not returned our calls.
The development comes after Evans Yeboah wrote to the New Crusading Guide on 3rd February denying the story of his arrest, and rather requesting for a retraction and apology from the Guide.
But it will be recalled the New Crusading Guide called the bluff of the former GOC Vice and rather went on to publish two more stories about the unfolding drama.
Yeboah, who is also the current President of the Badminton Association of Ghana, paid ¢1,400 to the Police when he was arrested on Thursday, 21st January at a badminton event in Accra.
He was said to have initially collected ¢12, 000 out of an agreed sum of ¢36, 000 from the complainant but severed communication with the latter over a period which resulted in the Police action.
The Accra Central Police station arrested the accused after he reneged on an earlier promise to report in-person at the station after the Police had contacted him.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on Evans Yeboah with the release of a letter from the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) which accuses the former of owing an amount of $ 8,276.5 being outstanding payments to the Benin Badminton Association and the Ugandan Badminton Association, and the BCA, among other alleged fraudulent dealings by Yeboah.
According to the BCA, it has released monies to the BAG and Evans Yeboah to defray the cost of competing in the events at Benin. Uganda, Indonesia, and other locations beforehand and was therefore surprised by Yeboah’s actions.
The letter was signed by the BCA Secretary-General Sahir Edoo on 5th February 2022 and copied to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and the Head of Legal and Governance, Badminton World Federation.
With less than five months to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, two senior Ghanaian badminton players Grace Atipaka and Daniel Sam accuse the badminton boss of denying them their Rio 2016 and 2018 Commonwealth Games scholarships worth about £5,000 each respectively.
The badminton board has currently suspended about 100 percent of the senior national badminton players following their public utterances on alleged injustices meted out to them by the current President and the board. In their place, a national U-17 team is currently being prepared for international assignments such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In a recent BAG press conference, Evans Yeboah insisted the disciplinary action he had taken against Daniel Sam and another player Ebenezer Andrews was justified because he claimed “the duo had breached the BAG constitution” without stating the particular provisions to back his claim.
The fate of the last elective congress of the badminton association in November 2021 is currently being contested in court by a group of badminton stakeholders who insists the election was fraudulent, coupled with fake members of congress among other things.
