The Former National Democratic Congress (NDC), MP for the Amasaman Constituency, Nii Okai Laryea, has been Summoned before the Sowutuom District Court for allegedly defrauding members of the Fitii We to the tune of GHC100,000( One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis).
Sources indicated that the former NDC MP in the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration used his position to illegally claim properties belonging to the family. Narrating the situation to Journalists, the Chief of the Fitii We, Nii Kwako Fitii IV, said, and
“Nii Okai Laryea also a member of the family was ordered by the leaders of the family to help protect all properties belonging to the family. Instead of adhering to the advice he rather used the
opportunity given him to trade the properties to enrich himself.
He noted that the family made some checks subsequently and realized that Nii Laryea had illegally sold some of their family lands and further contracted some people to win sand on
others to enrich himself.
“Nii Laryea on one occasion approached the members of the family that he was going to use his personal money register the family land to prevent people from encroaching on them. We gave
him the green light and even promised him of a 10% offer afterwards. It later came.to our realization that Nii Okai Laryea rather went to collect the money he used in registering the land
from the Savior Church of Ghana who were also illegally occupying a portion of our land after he was promised a share of the land should the registration become successful,” he disclosed.
According to Nii Kwaku Fitii IV, the family then has 1, 82.96 acres of land but the Former MP officially registered 769.39 due to encroachment. This was after getting his 10% share as
promised.
“Besides that, Nii Okai Laryea illegally registered 309 acres of the land in his company, name without the knowledge of the members of the family,” he disclosed.
He said the family has so far filed a suit at the court to compel Nii Okai Laryea to officially render an account to the family after his refusal to accept their invitation to render an account
The Chief described the action by Nii Okai Laryea as illegal, a move that is creating confusion among the family members.
According to the Chief, whilst in court, the Nii Okai Laryea has persistently been attacking member of the family with his team of landguards anytime they visited the land.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get in touch with Nii Okai Laryea, at the time of filing this story, proved futile.
