Residents of Taifa-Burkina in the Ga East Municipality of Greater Accra have expressed gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Janet Tulasi Mensah for providing them with a new market.
The market which has about 72 shelves was commissioned on Friday to enhance trading activities in the municipality.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the MCE explained that the commissioning of the market was an evidence of the assembly’s commitment to boost local economic development and enhance the socio- economic needs of the people.
The project she said was funded through the Urban Development Grant (UDG) following a successful performance assessment of the works of the assembly.
The MCE stated that the 3-bay, 72 stall market shed at Taifa-Burkina formed part of the assembly’s markets development agenda and therefore promised to assists every community within the assembly in need of one.
“A registration exercise has been conducted at the Dome market to gather data on traders at the market following a consultative meeting with stakeholders to discuss the plans for the construction of new facilities in the market for thousands of traders who trade on the bare ground. After the exercise, membership cards will be issued to the traders to ensure the allocation of facilities to eligible traders” the MCE pointed out.
Taifa-Burkina, Madam Tulasi Mensah said would see further development to accommodate more traders and businesses.
She said the market would go a long way to undoubtedly create jobs for the youth and women and generally enhance the socio-economic lives of people, especially those living within Taifa and surrounding communities.
The MCE pleaded with all who trades along major roads in the municipality, particularly Atomic roundabout, Dome market, St. Johns, Hatcho and Kwabenya to relocate to the market.
“Time has come for this municipality to witness an unprecedented development. We are working as an assembly in ensuring the successful attainment of the vision of President Akufo Addo of building an optimistic, self-confident and prosperous nation with a strong and thriving democratic society in which mutual trust and economic opportunities exist for all, irrespective of their background and also creating prosperity and equal opportunities for all through effective decentralization” Madama Tulasi Mensah stated.
