The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Officer of the Ga East Municipality in the greater Accra region, Mrs. Janet Tulasi Mensah, last week did what many men and women would have difficulties in doing.
She locked the main gate at the assembly premises to prevent over 80% staff and workers from working, for reporting late to work.
The MCE disclosed that she got to the office about 7: 30 am only to find out that about 70% to 80% staff and workers were absent in their offices.
The MCE said his action also formed part of President Akuffo Addo’s call for discipline at the various public institutions across the country.
“It will amused you as some people were still reporting to work after 12 pm and those are the same people who also leave work by 2 pm” she added.
The MCE bemoaned that a country that has attained middle income status cannot do things in the same old style and that such attitudes must change.
She gave a word of caution to her staff and workers that, she was going to pursue the agenda and it would not be a nine day wonder.
However, the offenders will be queried and she will liaise with the Controller and the Accountant General’s department so that staff who report to work are paid in accordance with the number of days hours and days of work.
Moreover, there are some people who also report to work early but leave to do other things whiles those who stay also would be on social media without bringing any productivity.
“The country cannot achieved its developmental goal if we continue with our lackadaisical attitudes as people” the MCE hinted.
