The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of its Governing Board, Air Commodore Rexford G.M. Acquah (Rtd) for what the Authority described as “micromanaging the Authority” with disregard to the functions of management and staff of the Authority.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Aviation, the GCAA staff body indicated that since assuming office as Board Chairman, Air Commodore Rexford G.M. Acquah (Rtd) has been acting unprofessionally and operating outside his mandate against the Ghana Civil Aviation Act 678.
The letter which was endorsed by all the GCAA unions and Associations including the Local Divisional Union, Ghana Air Traffic Controllers Association, Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association, Aviation Safety Inspectors Association of Ghana, Ghana Aeronautical Information Services Association, Senior Staff Association and Ghana Civil Association Electrical Staff Association, pointed out that his continuous unilateral imposition of his orders and intrusion in the day to day operations of the Authority as well as his unwarranted habit of threatening Management and staff over internal administrative matters have been “unbearable.”
They stated that, “He is abusive and abrasive in nature towards top management as well as the rank and file of the Authority- and has had lots of run-in with members of staff. He has an insatiable desire for the use of Authority assets. He controls the process of interviews for vacant positions including sitting in as part of the panel.”
Leaders of the Local Divisional Union and all other professional Associations that represent the entire general staff body of GCAA, said they are prepared to help build and grow the Authority and the Aviation industry but the actions of the Board Chairman is not in sync with the tenets of the Authority and therefore, they can no longer work with him.
“We have agreed that we can no longer work with him and he must be removed immediately,” they stressed.
