… To Clean School Feeding Programme Irregularities
The Ministry of Gender and Social Protection is leading about 700 Monitoring and Evaluation officers across the country to carry out a nationwide comprehensive assessment, including verification and validation of the Ghana school Feeding Programme.
The National Youth Employment Agency deployed the 700 officers upon request by the Minister for Women, Gender and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Morrison.
The Auditor General’s Report in 2018 revealed several financial irregularities leading to huge financial losses to the state in the management of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
The mess which has been recorded by the Report became a worry and concern to the sector minister who set out to take steps to clean up the system.
To ensure sanity and purge the GSFP of the mess, the Minister wrote to the Chief Executive Officer of Youth Employment Agency, YEA, copied the Acting National Coordinator of GSFP to intervene.
“I will be most grateful if you could kindly use your good office to carry out a nationwide comprehensive assessment (verification, validation, etc.) of the Ghana school Feeding Programme, to enable the ministry clean and update its records for credible payments”, the letter stated.
The sector minister also stressed the several challenges facing the programme and cost as the main reasons for the validation exercise.
She stated that, “this request has become necessary due to the numerous challenges facing the programme.”
Meanwhile, both the Minister and the YEA CEO who are so much enthused about ensuring that the school feeding program is not destroyed took urgent steps in deploying monitoring and evaluation officers across the country.
The nationwide evaluation exercise, according to YEA, will begin August 26th 2019 with the responsibility of cleaning the GSFP irregularities as reported by Auditor General.
This would be done through the use of credible computer software application powered by Millennium Promise Alliance, an international NGO working with the Ministry of Gender and YEA.
