Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that two Ghanaian citizens detained in Ukraine as Prisoners Of War(POW) are alive, well, and being treated in accordance with international law.
Following a rare visit to the high-security detention facility, Ablakwa expressed gratitude to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha for granting access, a first-of-its-kind gesture for an African foreign minister.

The minister revealed that the two citizens are determined to use their ordeal to educate vulnerable Africans about the dangers of trafficking networks, pledging to become lifelong advocates against such practices.
Hon. Ablakwa described the visit as a positive step toward securing their safe release and underscored Ghana’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad.
