Ghana’s economy grew by 5.5% in the third quarter of 2025, new provisional data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) shows — a sign of steady resilience despite global economic difficulties.
The non-oil sector led the charge with 6.8% growth, slightly lower than last year’s figure but still a strong indicator of improving economic activity.
Agriculture delivered one of the most impressive performances, jumping 8.6% compared to 2.5% in Q3 2024. The crops sub-sector continued to dominate, reflecting rising productivity among small and medium-scale farmers.
The Industry sector regained its footing with 0.8% growth after a contraction last year. Manufacturing and food processing supported the rebound, but overall progress was held back by another steep decline in oil and gas, which shrank 14.1%, extending its downward trend.
Services remained the country’s growth engine, expanding 7.6% and contributing about 40% of total GDP. Strong showings in ICT, trade, transport, storage, and education services drove the sector’s influence.
According to the GSS, just seven sectors — ICT, crops, trade, transport, storage, manufacturing, and education — made up nearly 86% of total GDP growth for the quarter.
Quarter-on-quarter data also showed improvement, with real GDP rising 1.3%, compared to 1.0% during the same period last year.
Some sub-sectors posted standout gains:
Fishing grew by 23.1%, the highest of all.
ICT increased by 17%.
Health, social work, transport, storage, and crops also expanded.
However, several areas contracted, including oil and gas, mining and quarrying, accommodation and food services, and other personal services, highlighting ongoing challenges in parts of the extractive and hospitality industries.
The GSS says the results reinforce the growing importance of non-oil sectors — particularly agriculture and services — in sustaining Ghana’s economic momentum as the country heads into the final quarter of 2025.
