President John Mahama has announced a new policy that will require senior high schools nationwide to set up poultry and livestock farms.
Speaking at the 65th anniversary of Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) — which he and the First Lady attended as students — President Mahama said the initiative will help schools produce their own meat instead of depending on the market.
According to him, Ghanasco will be among the first schools selected for the rollout.
“We are coming up with a policy where secondary schools will have both a poultry farm and a livestock farm,” he stated. “This will ensure you don’t have to go to the market to buy meat. You will produce it yourselves — and the headmaster will have no excuse when the dining hall food has no meat.”
The policy aims to boost self-sufficiency in schools while giving students practical agricultural training and guaranteeing a reliable supply of fresh meat.
