Some leadership and junior staff members of the Ghana Manganese Company(GMC) are raising dissenting voice over what they allege to be a subtle attempt by the management of the company to lend financial support to the Parliamentary Candidate(PC) for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) to unseat the sitting New Patriotic Party’s(NPP) Member of Parliament(MP), Hon. George Mireku Duker.
According to some staff members of GMC who spoke to this reporter in anonymity to air their displeasure stated that it appears the current management are out to settle some score with the former board member of the company, Hon. Mireku Duker who brought a lot of positive changes to the near collapsed company in 2020.
They said, the management were obviously not comfortable with Hon. Duker because he ensured that the workers at GMC were properly remunerated or compensated for equal work done.
Hon. Duker also ensured that the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) game was raised to appreciable levels like the Goldfields, Anglogold Ashanti and the rest of them which obviously pricked the management at the time.
They said, the deputy minister also championed and upheld local content participation and the entire workforce were happy with what he(Duker) was doing for them. They expressed surprise as to why suddenly management of GMC appears to be supporting Issah Salifu of the NDC with funds to unseat Hon. Duker.
The NDC candidate is a former Commercial Manager of GMC and currently the Ports Manager for GMC but the leadership of the company have failed to get him to resign, while he moves around insulting the NPP government and the MP at all times with his perceived support of the Company.
This has caused dissatisfaction among the workforce and the people of Tarkwa-Nsuaem.
