What began as a glittering gold deal worth hundreds of thousands of dollars has spiraled into a jaw‑dropping saga of deception, staged arrests, and a mysterious vanishing act — leaving victims stranded, penniless, and desperate for justice, according to this paper’s investigation.

On April 18, 2025, a Nigerien businessman, Soumaila Ibrahim, says he was lured into Ghana by a man known only as Omar and his associates, who claimed to own a mining company called TEX‑MINERAL located at Adabraka, Accra.

Ibrahim told The New Crusading Guide that he arrived in Accra on April 21, 2025, and was shuffled between two hotels — first the Perriman Hotel, then the New Joko Hotel in Achimota. Days later, he was shown what he believed to be 55 kilograms of gold, tested at K.A & Sons Jewelry Company Limited in Adabraka. The transaction was set to proceed gradually, with an initial payment of USD 300,000 and USD 1,500.

But the night of the deal took a bizarre turn. Ibrahim recounts that as soon as he entered the meeting room to pay, men dressed as police officers burst in, declaring Omar wanted by the Ghanaian government.

“They handcuffed me, my colleague, and the man with the gold,” Ibrahim wrote in his petition. “They put us in different cars and drove off. Minutes later, the car carrying the so‑called suspect turned left while ours went right. After about 30 minutes, they dropped us in a bush area and sped away.”

Shocked and stranded, Ibrahim returned to his hotel and later fled to Lome, Togo, before bravely returning to Accra to report the incident to the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID). Investigations led to the arrest of Omar and 12 others linked to the case. But to Ibrahim’s dismay, the alleged mastermind was freed on bail within days, after reportedly presenting house documents as collateral.

“They told us if he didn’t pay in a month, they would seize his houses and sell them to recover our money,” Ibrahim lamented. “But it’s been over a year now — no money, no news. Every time we ask, they tell us the matter is still in court.”

New Crusading Guide Probes as IGP Intervenes

The New Crusading Guide newspaper, which has also been independently investigating this scandal, discovered that the modus operandi of the people involved in this gold scheme includes allegedly paying police officers investigating the matter.

Upon a petition sent to the IGP, this paper has been in touch with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the matter. The IGP has personally acknowledged the complaint and is currently looking into the case to ensure justice is served.

The Nigerien Embassy has also petitioned the Ghana Police Service on the matter.

Stay tuned.
