Government has inaugurated a new five-member board for Goldbod Jewellery, charging it to drive value addition in Ghana’s gold industry and make the country a leader in jewellery production.
The board is chaired by Samuel Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the National Ghana Gold Board. Other members include Getrude Emefa Donkor, Managing Director of Goldbod Jewellery; Richard Kwamena Prah, a jewellery manufacturer; Dr. Edem Cudjoe Amengor, a chartered banker and economist; and Adwoa Amankwaah Boateng Appiah, a marketing consultant.
At a brief ceremony at the Ministry of Finance, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko swore the members into office on behalf of sector minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Hon. Ampem Nyarko urged the new board to push for downstream processing to ensure Ghanaians benefit more from the country’s rich gold resources.
“Ghana has been blessed with an abundance of gold, but we have not fully realized the benefits. The establishment of Goldbod Jewellery is a step toward real value addition and economic transformation,” he said.
Board Chairman Samuel Gyamfi thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in the team and vowed to deliver results.
“We’re determined to make Ghana’s gold and precious minerals sector more attractive and rewarding for the ordinary Ghanaian,” he assured.
