The 2026 Otapirow Akwanbo Festival reached a memorable climax on Saturday, 31st January, 2026, with a colourful grand durbar held at the Otapirow Durbar Grounds. The event brought together traditional authorities, government officials, members of the Old Vandal Association and residents of Gomoa Otapirow to celebrate unity, development and progress. The durbar was marked by rich cultural displays, strong community participation and a clear message of appreciation for leadership and service to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Osompa Nyamekye II expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to national development and for the confidence he continues to repose in members of the Vandal fraternity by appointing them to key positions in governance. Nana commended the President for recognising competence and loyalty, describing him as a true Vandal who remains dedicated to service and inclusive leadership.
Special commendation was reserved for the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, whose selfless leadership and dedication to duty were highlighted as a shining example of effective public service. Nana noted that the President’s decision to entrust critical state institutions such as the DVLA to capable hands reflects a governance approach anchored in merit, discipline and results. The Education Minister and his Deputy were also duly acknowledged for their efforts in advancing education and human capital development.
The Omanhene further praised the Member of Parliament for the area, Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), for his continuous support to the people of Otapirow and his visible commitment to the development of the community. Nana used the occasion to appeal to government for increased educational support for the youth, emphasising that education remains the most sustainable path to empowering the next generation and securing the future of the area.
The durbar also highlighted the strength and solidarity of the Vandal fraternity, whose massive turnout added colour, energy and significance to the occasion. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to national service, unity and community development.
Special appreciation was extended to the Philanthropic Queen Mother, Nkligiwurche Boresah Iddisah Jeduah I Yagbon(Gonja) Kingdom, Savannah region for her presence, encouragement and generosity, as well as to the Planning Committee for the successful organisation of the festival activities.
In his closing remarks, Nana Osompa Nyamekye II expressed heartfelt thanks to the Chief and people of Otapirow for their unwavering support and strong community spirit, which continue to drive progress and cohesion. He concluded by thanking all stakeholders, guests and supporters whose contributions ensured the success of the 2026 Otapirow Akwanbo Festival, reaffirming the community’s readiness to partner with government and development-oriented groups for a brighter future.
