The executives of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), in collaboration with the British High Commission and the Ghana Standards Authority, have embarked on an investment tour of the United Kingdom to meet investors and explore investment and business opportunities there.
The tour took the 21 member executives to London, Birmingham, and other interesting business enclaves in the United Kingdom.
The Deputy General Secretary of GUTA, Emmanuel Nana Poku Acheampong, in an interview with the New Crusading Guide described the visit as fruitful as regards the meetings and the interest expressed by the business community in UK to partner and invest in their operations in Ghana.
The visit also offered a unique platform for members to have experience about how standards are developed and enforced in UK.
“The visit which began on 9th November and ended on 21st November was very fruitful. We had several meetings with the investors on standards and how to partner them to promote growth in a win win situation. We want to create standards for imported products. We cannot allow all sorts of products into Ghana since this is causing lots of problems to consumers “he stated
“There is a need for us to protect our consumers and this can be done when we create and implement policies on standards. So we met manufacturers of electrical and electronic products, clothing companies frozen food producers among others to discuss investment opportunities .the point is that We want only quality and affordable products imported into Ghana and nothing else. That is why we are in UK. We cannot allow fake and low standard products from China to infiltrate our market;’ he stated
“We thank the UK government for supporting us and the government of Ghana for all the assistance. We also want to thank the Director General of the Ghana standards Authority for his support. We are very happy for the visit and we will do our best to introduce quality standard products into Ghana “
