The National body of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has disclosed that its recent decision to dissolve the Greater Accra Regional Branch of the Association was due to mis-management and disorganization within its leadership.
According to GUTA National, it became obvious to its leadership that the rank-and-file of the Greater Accra branch had broken leading to fall in its strength and efficiency which is affecting the smooth running of the entire Association.
The leadership of National GUTA was responding to media reports that its action taken to dissolve the Regional body was over disbursement of GH¢600 million Coronavirus Alleviation Programme (CAP) business support cash.
Meanwhile, they said that did not come to play as the National body has no interest in the said disbursement.
The leadership however said the claim by the regional body that it does not answer to the national executives hence cannot be dissolve by it is ‘child’s play.’
Documents available from the National GUTA leadership indicate that, the National body played key role in the registration of the Greater Accra branch of the Association at the Registrar General Department.
In a letter dated November 15, 2017, the President of GUTA (National) wrote to the Registrar General demanding the registration of Greater Accra GUTA under the Company Act 1963 (Act 179.)
He also indicated in the said letter that their affiliate Regional body (Greater Accra GUTA) are permitted to “use our national constitution to register their branch; using the regional officers as their directors.”
GUTA National leadership also indicated that the division in the Greater Accra leadership over mismanagement on the part of its leadership is cause to worry.
According to them, there have been several complaints against the Greater Accra leaders which is affecting the operations of GUTA as a whole.
To the leadership, the decision to dissolve the group is to instill some level of discipline in the whole set up and ensure that all the misunderstandings are resolve so as to build a better and united GUTA which will work in the interest of the entire trading community in Ghana.
