The staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party who slapped Ohemaa Sekyiwaa, a journalist from Adom FM last Friday, has apologised to her for her unruly behaviour.

Hajia Fati told journalists at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Wednesday that, her actions were a mistake and should not have happened.

“I am here today to appeal to all pressmen I am on my knees begging you people. I don’t have any grudge against any press man but what happened was a mistake so please you people should forgive me,” she said.

Hajia Fati came under a barrage of criticism this week after she assaulted Ohemaa Sakyiwaa when she attempted taking a photo of her at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Hajia Fati had earlier prevented Sammy Crabbe, a suspended Vice Chairman of the party from picking up forms to contest for the party’s chairmanship position.

She subsequently explained that she thought the reporter was a member of Sammy Crabbe’s camp who had been sent to take pictures for ulterior motives.

According to her, the reporter looked like an “onion seller” not a journalist as she had come to learn.

However, after being critiqued by the public and some members of her party, Hajia Fati has rendered an apology to Ohemaa and the entire journalism fraternity for her behaviour.

The tearful Hajia said “I am on my knees please forgive me. I plead with you all, I am sorry, I am sorry…it won’t happen again.”

JoyNews’ Kwesi Parker-Wilson who was at the NPP headquarters said the woman who is known for her abusive nature rendered the apology after speaking to the Youth Organiser of the Party, Sammy Awuku.

Mr Awuku was at the party office to pick forms to contest the National Organiser position of the party in the upcoming National Delegates’ Congress.

He told journalists that the party will do whatever it can to ensure that incidents of such nature do not recur.

“So, on Hajia’s behalf and on behalf of all our party people, I want to also plead with our colleagues in the media to forgive her.

“She is a very friendly person but once in a while we all lose our guard so on behalf of the party we want to say we are sorry to the media,” Mr Awuku said.

He said the role of journalists in the functioning of the state and even his party, cannot be downplayed assuring that the NPP will not be one that mistreats them, especially when they were the ones that caused the repeal of the criminal libel law.
