Deputy Minister for Health, Tina Mensah yesterday officially unveiled, COA Mixture, an indigenously manufactured herbal medicine approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for general wellbeing.
Madam Tina Mensah said the Ministry of Health is working towards adopting some 40 herbal products for further cooperation for growth and COA falls within the said 40.
She was emphatic that regulatory agencies such as the FDA are very necessary in ensuring that the public is protected and consumes only wholesome products.
The brief unveiling ceremony held in Accra was made possible only after the FDA gave approval to the manufactures of the product to resume work.
Sometime early this year, the FDA said some two batches of the product, then known as COA FS, had been contaminated therefore the entire COA products on the market should be recalled and destroyed.
The recall of the product was done across the country and together with the FDA, the company destroyed the entire products under the supervision of the Ghana Police Service.
Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan, founder of the Center of Awareness Global Peace Mission, manufactures of the product said the recalled product had a market value of GHC1, 680, 000.
After they were destroyed, the manufacturing company had to inject some ten million cedes (GHC10,000,000) into uplifting its factory facilities, training of staff, putting up security features and generally meeting the regulatory requirements that has repositioned COA as a stronger competitor in the herbal medicine fraternity.
“I am proud to announce that this launching wouldn’t have been successful without the FDA, who have consistently been with us throughout the restricting of the factory to get it to the best of standards and to produce a good quality product; COA Mixture. We couldn’t have done it without you, FDA.
“Special thanks to Mrs. Mimi Delase Darko, CEO of FDA, Management and Technical Staff of the FDA including the Cape Coast Directorate for their selfless support and immense contribution”, Prof. Ato Duncan noted.
