Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday expressed optimism that he would romp home with victory and as the flagbearer after New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries tomorrow, 4 November, 2023.
“By the grace of God, l have brought my campaign, the visits to the NPP delegates in their constituencies to an end,” Dr. Bawumia told journalists during an interaction with them at his residence on Thursday.
“Every constituency has been a home for me for the past 15 years, and for this particular campaign, my mission was simple; to let the delegates know why I represent the NPP’s best chance of breaking the 8 in next year’s presidential election, if I am elected the party’s flagbearer,” the vice president said.
“Having put up a spirited campaign backed by a dedicated team of brilliant and hardworking young men and women across the country, I have nothing but absolute confidence that I will be victorious on Saturday, November 4th. And my victory will be the victory for the NPP,” Dr. Bawumia added confidently.
Dr. Bawumia shared his political and campaign journey, his message and also, how he was well received by delegates across the country.
“It has been a journey, describe it as short and long but very fulfilling,” he noted.
“From the period of the conception of the idea to offer myself for this party and national duty as a flagbearer of NPP through to consultation stages to the period of the campaign, I have enjoyed the cooperation and support of so many people, and I am eternally grateful to each and everyone.”
“Throughout my campaign, dear friends, I also stressed on the need for a decent campaign devoid of rancour, in order to preserve the unity of our party. I demonstrated this value, by embarking on a campaign devoid of insults and personality attacks.”
As he stressed throughout his interactions with delegates across the country, Dr. Bawumia agajn reiterated his commitment to the unity of the NPP as the party’s flagbearer.”
“We are a party of different people from different backgrounds with different preferences. But in our differences, we are indivisible. With this in mind, I have been presenting a message that fosters unity, inspires hope and confidence, and positions the NPP as the best to lead Ghana.”
The race, which started with ten people, has now been left with 4, after Dr. Bawumia won convincingly in Super Delegates Conference in September ahead of the rest.
After going around the country to interact with party delegates in an intensive campaign, Dr. Bawumia says his message, centred on his commitment to the party, his impact in government as Vice President, his vision of strengthening the party’s relation with government, and party unity post-election, has been well received by the delegates.
Come tomorrow, over two hundred thousand delegates of the NPP are expected to go to the polls to elect a new flagbearer to steer the affairs of the party into the 2024 national elections.
