Political watchers have raised serious concerns over the recent attacks from Honourable Kennedy Agyepong on Honourable Francis Asenso-Boakye, after several years of a cordial relationship that existed between them.

Interestingly, it was evident that the attacks came immediately after Francis Asenso-Boakye openly declared his support for the vice president.

Since then, Kennedy Agyepong has been working his fingers to the bones to dent the image and destroy the integrity and credibility of Francis Asenso-Boakye.

His first attempt, according Jegbiri Yaro, in the Damongo Constituency in the Savannah Region people, was his allegation that Honourable Francis Asenso-Boakye once said that Bawumia was not going to win the 2024 general elections but would bounce back in 2028 and win.

The statement issued by Honourable Francis Asenso-Boakye debunking the allegation and reiterating his unflinching support for the Vice President in the primaries angered Honourable Kennedy Agyepong that he took his verbal attacks on Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye to the media and alleged that Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye was once resident in the Kennedy Agyepong friend’s house in Adenta.

Also, Asenso-Boakye, in a radio interview, stated that he was to speak to the matter and nothing else because he was brought up properly, and for that matter, he will never rain insults on the elderly.

Kennedy Agyepong’s attacks on the Honourable Member of Parliament for Bantama started recently in the heat of the NPP presidential primaries held in November 2023.

It emerged that Kennedy Agyepong has on several platforms before the party opened nominations for the presidential primaries referred to Honorable Francis Asenso-Boakye as a person full of humility and respect.

In 2020, in a walk organized by the party in the Bantama constituency to galvanize votes for Francis Asenso-Boakye as the parliamentary candidate for the Bantama Constituency and Nana Akuffo Addo as the NPP flagbearer of the party, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong stated to the crowd of NPP supporters gathered there that Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, as deputy chief of staff, has endeared himself with a lot of ministers of the Nana Addo/ Bawumia’s administration largely because of his sense of respect and humility.

Interestingly, the hitherto friendly relationship between Honorable Kennedy Ohene Agyepong and Asenso-Boakye got marred after  Honorable Francis Asenso-Boakye openly declared his support for the candidature of the Vice President of Ghana against Honorable Kennedy Ohene Agyepong in the NPP presidential primaries.

Honourable Kennedy Agyepong took offence to the statement of Asenso-Boakye that he (Asenso-Boakye) was brought up properly not to insult elders and intensified his attacks on him.

In his tireless bid to bring an abrupt end to Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye’s political career, he sponsored his younger brother, Lawyer Ralph Agyepong, to contest Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye in the parliamentary primaries in Bantama.

Also, it is an indication that in conformity with the words of Ralph Agyepong that his elder brother was to be in the constituency in two weeks to the day of the election to change the political narrative of the constituency, Mr. Kennedy Agyepong was in the constituency last week, and all that he engaged in was to attack the person of Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye fabricated lies and peddled falsehood against Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye.

However, Kennedy’s attempt to destroy Honorable Asenso Boakye rather saw him stepping on the toes of the delegates and in trying to woo voters for his brother, he threatened the respected delegates of Bantama and referred to Asenso-Boakye as not qualified to represent the people of Bantama in Ghana’s Parliament because according to him he is inferior because he is the son of a food seller.

Meanwhile, the question that kept lingering in the constituency and the entirety of Ghana after his speech is whether Ghana’s Parliament is the preserve of the children of rich and aristocrats? Many see that as the biggest insult ever to come from a politician in Ghana against the bourgeoisie.

His allegation against Asenso-Boakye of selling the bungalow of the former Chief of Staff Justice Marful-Sau to incriminate Honourable Asenso was shot down by the Judicial Service of Ghana and the Ministry of Works and Housing.

The letters of the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Judicial Service of Ghana dated 14th January 2024 and 16th January 2024 respectively gave crystal clear proof that the said bungalow was not sold but part of the Government’s Redevelopment Scheme that seeks to increase the housing stock in the country.

From the events that ensued between Honourable Francis Asenso-Boakye and Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, it can be comfortably concluded that Honourable Kennedy Agyepong did not get his facts right.

His incessant attacks and peddling of falsehoods about Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye is a measure to get his brother through the NPP parliamentary primaries just because Honourable Francis Asenso-Boakye did not support him in the NPP primaries.
