Dear Lumorii,
PETITION IN SUPPORT OF THE SUSPENSION OF THE LA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL (LTC), OPPOSITION TO THE USURPATION OF THE LA STOOL COUNCIL’S NAME, AND REQUEST FOR FORENSIC AUDIT
We, the undersigned/conveners and representatives of the grieving La and Ga community, respectfully submit this petition to express our strong support for the Ministry’s recent decision to suspend the La Traditional Council (LTC) in the interest of safeguarding the integrity of La’s traditional governance.
Copies Attach. We further request immediate measures to address issues of unauthorized usage of the La Stool Council’s name and to initiate a forensic audit of the La Traditional Council (LTC), and certain individuals of the council who have engaged in actions detrimental to the community.
- Support for Suspension of the La Traditional Council (LTC)
We acknowledge and fully support the Ministry’s decision to suspend the LTC. This decision is essential for restoring proper traditional administration and ensuring that the governance of La is conducted with transparency and respect for our traditions and values.
- Non-inclusion of External Traditional Leaders
We would like to clarify that certain traditional leaders outside of these royal divisions, including Nii Adjei Kofeh IV (Shikiteli), Nii Obodai Adai IV (Anarhor Mantse &La Mankralo), and Nii Yemo Din (La Akwaashontse II) do not hold any rightful position within the La Stool Council. Their actions and claims to authority within the La Stool Council are therefore without basis in La custom and tradition.
- Usurpation of the La Stool Council’s Name
Since the suspension, certain members of the LTC have clandestinely re-branded and metamorphosed themselves as the La Stool Council and have reportedly used forged letterheads to conduct transactions, including unauthorized sale of stool properties. These actions amount to a clear usurpation of authority and are an affront to the traditional rights and processes of the La people. This usurpation, started on September 28, 1910; amid protests by the then Regent, Senior Chief La Dzasetse Nii Adjei Oserna.
- Call for Forensic Audit and Accountability
We urge the Ministries, in particular Ministry of Chieftancy and Religious Affairs, to initiate a forensic audit and investigation of Nii Adjei Kofeh IV (Shikiteli), Nii Obodai Adai IV (Anarhor Mantse &La Mankralo), and Nii Yemo Din (La AkwaashontseII). These individuals should be held accountable for any transactions undertaken since the passing of the late La Maŋtsɛ, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, particularly in connection with the unauthorized sale of stool properties. All wrongdoing must be addressed with appropriate penalties to uphold justice and protect La’s heritage.
We thank you for your attention to this pressing matter and respectfully request prompt action to restore order, protect La’s cultural assets, and prevent any further misuse of the La Stool Council’s name and authority.
Please this provocation is unacceptable, and the masses are getting agitated.
The La Traditional Council must pay heed to the order, by not only respecting its supervisory bodies but also must respect the 1992 Constitution and the Ghana Government; and it must be now.
The La Traditional Council is a statutory body of representatives of quarters (Akutsei). Under Act 759 and 789 of 1972. It has no property, as an institution. The allodial owners of any town’s land or property is the Stool Council.
Kindly, help resolve this impasse. The situation is not good on the ground.
We, respectfully count on your usual cooperation. Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Abednego Adjei Adjetey
