Residents of Joma and surrounding communities within the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region are living in fear over persistent landguard attacks.
Reports indicate that these notorious landguards illegally sell lands of allodia owners for personal gains under the watch of the Anyaa and Odokor police officers.
The leader of these notorious landguards, popularly known as Nurudeen, according to information gathered has been leading his team with guns, cutlasses and machetes to harass and attack legal land owners at their various sites on daily bases .
Narrating the worrying situation to this reporter, Asafoatse Nii Armah of the Nii Aryee Family of Joma, said ”we are currently in a state of fear, where we cannot even sleep in our own homes neither set foot on our legally acquired lands due to the acts of these notorious landguards”.
He disclosed that one of his brothers was recently attacked and caged by Nurudeen and his team, beaten severally for his refusal to leave his personally acquired land to be taken over by them for sale.
“Nurudeen always says that he has both the Anyaa and the Odokor police officers in his pocket, so no one can stop him and his guys from their operations” the Asafoatse stated.
He alleged that these notorious landguards have been settling the Anyaa and the Odokor Police with money to shield their illegal operations.
“A man was recently attacked on his land by these landguards who took away his two mobile phones, motorbike, huge sums of money among others things. The case was reported to the Police but the police refused to do any arrest” he stated.
The Asafoatse cited a case where the late chief of the area met his untimely death after speaking on Peace FM of the acts of notorious landguards at Joma two years ago. This he said is likely to be repeated if nothing is done to tackle the current deadly situation.
The Traditional Leader has therefore appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) National Security Minister to as matter of urgency come to the aid of the good people of Joma before things get worst.
“We do t wat to put the law into our own hands and that’s why we are humbly calling on authorities to come and arrest the situation before we also face them with our last drop of blood” he angrily stated.
