In the face of the economic downturn Ghana is currently experiencing, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), Hon. George Mireku Duker has urged the party faithful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally support behind the President and his government to deliver on the assigned contractual mandate.
In an interview with Hon. Duker to elicit his view on the current economic situation facing the country, the Deputy Minister stated that, it is important for us as a Party to rally strongly behind our President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He indicated that, “The fiscal turmoil is global in nature.”
However, government is putting up frantic efforts to mitigate the situation.
Moreover, he opined that, the President has already identified and admitted in humility that, we are in economic difficulties. That alone exemplifies his resolve and commitment in getting the situation normalized.
He persistently stressed on the need for us to throw our support behind the president.
Hon. Duker recounted saying; “we are all aware of the exogenous factors that hit the world and Ghana was not exceptional and therefore we must not lose sight of that because even strong economies have been practically brought to their knees”.
“The same President and government who managed the COVID-19 pandemic to the admiration of world leaders is equally capable of surmounting this economic situation, what we need is the support and the buy-in of the citizenry especially our own party supporters,” he opined.
As Members of Parliament, we must not forget the “Collective Responsibility Boat” that we sit in.
“We sail together or we sink together” he stressed.
