The Acting President of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assembly in Kumasi, Macaiah Akwasi Addai, is in big trouble amidst the shame following his alleged intensions to soil the hard-won reputation of the Kumasi Sreso branch head pastor, Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and his family members, at Mpasatia in the Ashanti Region.
Macaiah Akwasi Addai who claims to be a polygamist is reported to have published a defamatory statement on the platform of a Kumasi-based privately owned radio station Sompa FM in 2023, which sought to sully the image of Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and his entire family members at Mpasatia.
According to Sompa FM’s reports last year, Elder Ofori Jnr and her late mother allegedly collaborated and poisoned to death his (Macaiah Akwasi Addai’s) uncle, late Elder Enoch Ofori Snr. who was the president, founder and leader of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assembly.
Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr’s father is the late Elder Enoch Ofori Snr whose late wife is Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr’s mother, but Akwasi Addai in his radio reports alleged that it was Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and her late mother who collaborated to kill the late founder and leader of Pentecostal Assembly.
The sad news, it was learnt, never went down well with Enoch Ofori Jnr who referred to the head of his Asona family of Mpasatia, Opanin Osei Kwadwo who also in turn summoned the man of God at the Manhyia Palace to justify his allegations.
On Tuesday, 30 January, 2024, when the case was called at the Manhyia Palace, the 7- member panellists chaired by Kumasi Kaasehene found Macaiah Akwasi Addai guilty.
This was when Addai had mounted conflicting defense that he only used the word suspicious poisoning of his late uncle, and not a statement of fact.
Hear excerpts of the Questions and answers at the palace:
Panel Members: Egya Addai, you said suspicious poisoning of your late uncle, did you take steps to check or demand autopsy report to justify your suspicion?
Macaiah Akwasi Addai:
No.
Panel Members:
Why
Macaiah Akwasi Addai:
My assertion at the Sompa radio was only based on suspicion.
Panel Members:
Don’t you know that issues that broader on death are serious and cannot be taken for granted?
Macaiah Akwasi Addai:
Nananom I know, but I just suspected the death of my late Uncle to be poisoning.
Panel Members:
As a pastor who based your principles on truth, why do you failed to base your actions on facts before going to air, and suppose Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and his family members keep quiet and move about, what definition would people use to describe them in the society?.
Do you know your action is very dangerous based on your own words?.
Macaiah Akwasi Addai:
Nananom, with due respect l have done a big mistake and l am ready to render my apologies to the plaintiffs in this case. I am guilty Naananom, forgive me my sins.
At Manhyia Palace in 2023, the 7 member panellists found Pastor Macaiah Akwasi Addai who already have three wives guilty. He was convicted of the offence and made to pay GHC 25,000 as compensation to the man of whose wife Macaiah Akwasi Addai snatched.
Apart from finding him guilty also by a Supreme Court of Ghana in 2023 and made to pay GHC5000 fine over church litigation with the same Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and his group of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assembly, Akwasi Addai has further been cited for contempt this year 2024.
According to the Solicitors of Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr and his group, Yaanom Chambers headed by lawyer Charles Agbenu, Macaiah Akwasi Addai who allegedly promotes polygamy had falsely organized a church election and declared himself the president of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assembly.
