Security experts and insiders have raised alarm over what they describe as a looming attempt to implicate McDan Aviation in a fabricated cocaine scandal, calling on government and security agencies to act swiftly to avert any reputational damage to the Ghanaian-owned aviation company.
The warning comes after mounting speculation in security circles about the potential targeting of prominent local businesses in the wake of recent drug trafficking controversies at Kotoka International Airport.
According to multiple sources familiar with national security operations, McDan Aviation, owned by business mogul Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, may be the next target in a series of high-stakes setups aimed at discrediting reputable companies.
“McDan must beware. There are clear signs pointing to an elaborate plan to rope his company into a cocaine scandal. This could be a well-orchestrated attempt to bring down one of Ghana’s most successful aviation enterprises,” one retired intelligence officer told reporters under anonymity.
He added that in light of recent unfounded allegations involving aircraft at KIA and the public outrage that followed, there may be elements within or outside the country seeking to use the same narrative to tarnish key local businesses.
In response to the rising concern, stakeholders in the aviation and business sectors are urging the government to put measures in place to shield McDan Aviation from any such setup.
They argue that the company has been instrumental in promoting Ghana’s private aviation industry and logistics capabilities, and that any false allegations could have far-reaching economic and reputational consequences.
“This is not just about McDan. It’s about protecting the integrity of Ghanaian businesses,” said one aviation consultant. “We cannot allow baseless accusations or orchestrated setups to destroy years of investment, innovation, and national pride.”
Meanwhile, supporters of McDan Aviation have taken to social media with the hashtag #ProtectMcDanAviation, demanding transparency from the authorities and a thorough vetting of all security operations at the airport to prevent any planted evidence or false associations.
