Military personnel allegedly turn land guard on a private land grabbed in Airport Residential Area, Accra, sparking concerns of land ownership disputes and security breaches.
- B.D Ventures, the company involved, was allocated a 0.9- acre plot of land on Drake Avenue, Accra, in 2019.
According to documents, the company, which is into trading, received an offer letter from the lands commission, but someone unlawfully placed containers on the land storing construction equipment in it.
Checks made by the company revealed that earlier, one company called Gold Key Properties was using the place as a temporary site office.
However, their finding says someone else has partnered with Gold key properties and taken over the land.
Eventually, the military personnel, claiming to be from Support Service Command at Burma Camp, are now providing protection for the land, restricting access, and compromising ownership rights.
Checks made by J.D.B Ventures from the Ministry of Defence indicate that they have not assigned any military personnel to the land. Raising concerns about their unauthorized involvement in land disputes.
The company went to paste posters on the gate that the land belonged to them, but the military personnel harrassed them and peeled off all the posters.
The company also suspects someone in a higher position is trying to grab the land and occupy it unlawfully.
The incident now highlights the ongoing challenges of land management and security in Ghana’s capital city.
The company is asking the military personnel to vacate the place because they are not supposed to be there.
