The NDC has been hit with excitement about the declaration by former President John Mahama of his intention to contest the upcoming National Democratic Congress Primaries.

MyNewsGh.com took a quick look at how social media is reacting to the news.

While some of the comments said he will never be President of Ghana again, and that he has been tainted with corruption, NDC diehards were more than excited about his announcement with many of them promising to go all out to ensure he becomes President again.

“I sense yet another historically shameful defeat looming, your active political retirement awaits u in 2020”, one comment said.

“I wonder why some people are blind in everything, hmmmmm.. U r sitting there commenting JM 2020. Sit there and deceive your self Apuuuuuuuuuuuuuu”.

On his specific chances, one social media user added, “5050 koraa he will not come back. He will chop 30%. This is the actual confirmation your Excellency.”

But there was massive support from many, many NDC diehards who welcomed the news.

“We are SOLIDLY behind you until your constitutional mandate Guaranteed by The 1992 Constitution to Rule Ghana 2 Terms for 4 years each Expires.”

“Ramadan Kareem!!! At the mention of the name JM every npp member begin to shake kyakyakyakya!!! including their super incompetent Akkufu Addo the auto pilot president , super chronic liar bawuliar and their wives… JM ,nppfo fears u papa.”

“Every member in npp fear u including their rented media house, and their political pastors esp the one appointed to cancer board”

“JM God richly bless you, we the teeming supports will keep on praying for you and the family. JM2020 is possible with God on our side.”

Unofficial declaration

Former President John Dramani Mahama has officially announced his decision to stage a comeback and lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections.

The former President at one of the Unity Walks recently, promised to announce his decision at the opportune time following incessant calls from members of the party who were pressing upon him to come back and lead the party.

In a post on his official Facebook page on Saturday sighted by MyNewsGH.com, Mr Mahama who lost to current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said:

“I want to congratulate the rank & file and executives of our party, the NDC, at all levels for the commitment and work rate we have put into our reorganization efforts”, he said.

“The zeal and determination of the average sympathizer of our great party is greater and miles ahead of what it was after the December 2016 Elections.” He added, encouraging the party, “We need to keep up with the momentum generated and follow the published timelines.”

He said he has listened to the teeming supporters of the NDC who are calling on him to lead them, adding that he will not disappoint the NDC.

“To you the teeming supporters and sympathizers calling and requesting me to declare my intentions for the future, I wish to assure you today, that as a servant-leader, I have listened to your calls and reflected. I will not disappoint you even as we await the publication of the party’s guidelines for selecting a new leader”.

Mr John Dramani Mahama lost the 2016 elections to President Akufo-Addo by nearly a million votes, in what was an unprecedented defeat for any incumbent President in the history of the fourth republic.

So far, Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, Prof Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah, Stephen Atubiga and Alban Bagbin are expected to “slug it out” with Mr Mahama in September.
