A cartel operating within the Ghana Immigration Service using the name of the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Derry to swindle unsuspecting public has been exposed by the Mobile Telecommunication Network,
Information gathered reveals that a state official, who saw the deal offered by the cartel at the Immigration Service to enlist his people into the Immigration Service was swindled big time by over Gh¢20, 000 cedis.
Speaking to The New Crusading GUIDE in an interview, the senior state official (name withheld for now) said on September 2 2018, he received an SMS message from a Vodafone mobile number 0205596082 supposed to be that of the Interior Minister Hon. Ambrose Derry (with his photo appearing) requesting him to get some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to be recruited into the Ghana Immigration Service.
“This fraudster proceeds to give me another MTN number 0542948888 supposed to be for one Addo Mensah at Ghana Immigration Service. This supposed Addo Mensah is in uniform (photo attached) appears and is coordinating the recruitment. This second Person (Addo Mensah) then requested for the following data name, contact number , email address and Voter ID of the prospective party applicant and three hundred Ghana cedis as protocol processing fee transferred to one Mary Okyere with Momo number MTN 0541245235 believed to be in Nsawam.”
“To make me (victim) believe that the scam is real, photos of the innocent people are used on these fake numbers that don’t belong to these people. The photos of the Interior Minister, Hon. Ambrose Derry and Nana Addo Mensah (real name Otoo) Immigration Officer’s picture attached appeared on the SMS Display Picture (DP) without their knowledge to convince potential victims to believe that the recruitment was actually true or real to the innocent unsuspecting victim”.
“Based on this, I transferred over 20,000 cedis to Mary Okyere on MTN mobile money number 0541245435 believed to be in Nsawam. The fraudster used this numbers 0247518307 and 0543946519 to call me.
Meanwhile checks made at the MTN head office exposed the fraudster as one Isaac Otoo a senior officer of the Ghana Immigration service. It is alleged that Mr Otoo confirmed ownership of the MTN mobile money number and the account when he was confronted with the fraud issue by MTN officials at the Akwateman office and promised to pay back the money which was never done.
Interestingly, The Ghana Immigration Service in an official statement signed by Baaba Asare DCG/Legal has refuted the allegation and denied the involvement of Isaac Otoo.
The letter said “investigations conducted by the Professional Standard and Ethics unit of the service has concluded the no prima facie case has been established against the officer to warrant disciplinary action to be taken against him.
According to the investigative report, there was no evidence against him basis of which he could be charged and tried on the alleged offence. That all the evidence gathered during the investigations shows that this was a clear case of stolen identity in that the perpetrators took ASI Otoo’s picture to commit the said offence you complained about.
