A swoop conducted by National Security operatives, on May 7, 2021, in two separate locations in Asankragwa, specifically, the area behind the Petrosol Fuel Station and a Casino/Restaurant within the Xindi Hotel off the Asankragwa-Enchi Road, led to the arrest of six (6) Chinese nationals allegedly involved in money laundering, drug peddling and the operation of an illegal gold refinery in the Asankragwa township.
The kingpin and owner of the Hotel, who is currently at large, was apparently in Kumasi brokering a gold deal when the arrests were made. His wife, XueLianLua, who claims to be the accountant of the Hotel and Casino was, however, arrested and is aiding investigations.
The six suspects apprehended were:ChemGuiBim (31), Lu Siam Chu (36), Wu Sao Pui (41), Yao Sausam (44), XueLianlua (30), and Cheng Chun Rong (45).
Items retrieved during the operation, this paper gathered, included 1 Toyota Land Cruiser, a total of Gh1,302,990, One (1) and half boxes of Mercury, 6 Pump Action guns, One sidearm, 7 excavator control boards, 3 parcels of Indian hemp, 8 cartridges, One laptop, 80 phones, 4 IPads.
The arrested Chinese nationals, this paper was told, are illegal migrants.
All six (6) suspects as at the time of going to press were in the custody of the Ministry of National Security assisting ongoing investigations while awaiting prosecution.
