NDC Chairmanship Race:
Ahead of the up-coming election to elect new national officers to steer the affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into election 2024, incumbent national chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, is facing a herculean task of rallying support from his home constituency-Fanteakwa North-to bolster his campaign.
Legions of delegates in the constituency have thrown their support for Chairman Ofosu Ampofo’s fierce contender, Johnson Asiedu Nkatiah, describing him as the man who could lead them to victory in the 2024 elections.
The delegates, in a statement released last Monday, 5 December, this year, stated that, “We the Delegates of FANTEAKWA NORTH CONSTITUENCY, after a careful study and understanding of the campaign messages and vision statements of all the candidates vying for the chairmanship position of our great party, Nation Democratic Congress (NDC), have resolved and declared our unflinching support for Mr Johnson Asiedu Nkatiah…”
Chiefly amongst their reasons for rooting for the General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nkatiah, fondly referred to as General Mosquito, is that, “It is said charity begins at home. We have heard Mr. Ampofo’s campaign team make claim to GENEROSITY, touting him as generous person; but we find the statement unfortunate or perhaps it is so somewhere else and not here in FANTEAKWA NORTH CONSTITUENCY, where he hails from, politically.”
In a statement signed by a group called Concerned Members of the Fanteakwa North Constituency, they disclosed that Johnson Asiedu Nkatiah was the only national officer who visited the constituency prior to the 2020 elections and supported them in campaigning.
“We believe that Mr Johnson Asiedu Nkatiah, is a man of his words, who would open his doors when we call on him in times of need. We therefore implore all Delegates to vote em mass for Mr. Asiedu Nketia come 17 December, 2022, to steers the affairs of the party,” the group added.
Read excerpts of the statement: “…we need power and the only person who will help the NDC win power in 2024 as chair is Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nkatia, because of his loyalty, bravery and commitment to the NDC party. Again, we as delegates like to mention that the soul of the NDC is Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nkatia, so we will vote for him.”
