A dye-in-the-wool member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Chief Mmorndoe Osman Salaam, is breathing heavily on the neck of the regional executives of the party over myriad of damning allegations apparently contained in the report of a Fact-Finding Committee after the 2020 elections.
He is, in a petition, also calling on the Functional Executive Council to, with immediate effect, remove the regional chairman Augustus Andrews and Kwame Zu from their respective offices as per Article 46 (9c) of the party’s constitution, “…as their continuous stay in office poses a huge threat to the fortunes of the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections.”

A PETITION OF CHIEF MMORNDOE OSMAN SALAAM OF THE AHAFO ANO SOUTH EAST CONSTITUENCY TO THE FUNCTIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2022 AGAINST THE REGIONAL CHAIRMAN AUGUSTUS ANDREWS NANA AKWASI AND THE SECRETARY KWAME ZU
The humble Petition of CHIEF MMORNDOE OSMAN SALAAM states as follows;
- That I am a Ghanaian and a resident in the Ashanti Region (Abesewa) in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency
- That I am a card-bearing member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in good standing with the party membership card number E46003118 at the Abesewa Islamic School Branch within the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency
- That I have cited a report in the Chronicle Newspaper “Vol 31. No170 on Thursday 22nd September, 2022 with the heading “WHY NDC FAILED IN ASHANTI REGION……regional chairman and secretary indicted”. It was followed by breaking news on Kessben FM, Peace FM, Hello FM and other notable media outlet.
- My source also indicated without any shred of doubt that same report has been delivered to the National Executive Committee, General Secretary, Functional Executive Committee, President John Dramani Mahama, and other relevant personalities in the party
- That my love for the party and the general outcry from the masses within the party urged me to dive deep into all these numerous reports and publications in relation to the Fact-Finding Committee report hence, my decision to petition
- That in paragraph 2 of the chapter 5 of the Executive Summary of the ASHANTI REGIONAL NDC COUNCIL OF ELDERS FACT FINDING COMMITTEE REPORT establishes that, “the Chairman showed gross incompetence and left everything in the hands of the regional Secretary who manipulated the system to his advantage”, this conduct on the party of the regional chairman and the secretary are again in violation of Article 48 (8c) and these actions of these two officers of the party contributed to the defeat of the party in the 2020 general elections.
- That paragraph 21 of the Executive Summary of the ASHANTI REGIONAL NDC COUNCIL OF ELDERS FACT FINDING COMMITTEE REPORT again established that, the regional chairman Augustus Andrews and the regional secretary Kwame Zu exhibited some lackadaisical attitude during the elections and also compromised their positions by taking some gifts from the NPP to the detriment of the party and this insubordination conduct of the chairman and the secretary clearly violates Article 48 (8c) of the party’s constitution
- That paragraph 22 under chapter 5 of the of the Executive Summary of the ASHANTI REGIONAL NDC COUNCIL OF ELDERS FACT FINDING COMMITTEE REPORT also establishes that, the regional chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi and the regional secretary Kwame Zu deliberately handled the Ashanti regional elections poorly which undermined the directives of National towards the elections and this clearly violates Article 19 (d) and Article 48 (8a) of the party’s constitution
- It was established also in page 63 paragraph 2 of the Report-Fact-Finding-Committee and paragraph 6 chapter 5 of the chapter of the executive summary of the ASHANTI REGIONAL COUNCIL OF ELDERS FACT FINDING COMMITTEE REPORT ON ISSUES RELATING TO THE 2020ELECTIONS IN THE ASHANTIREGION indicated that “…..there was no proper preparation towards the election and training of polling agents. Whiles the committee pointed out that there were not adequate resources to train polling agents, some whopping 100, 000 CEDIS which was meant for the training of these agents was shared by the regional chairman, secretary and the organizer in the ratio 4:3:3 as it was disclosed by the regional organizer Isham Yaw Bonso and admitted by the regional secretary Kwame Zu before the committee. I am of the firm believe that this action is contrary to article 48 (8e) and therefore constitutes violation of same.
- That I therefore make this petition seeking the following reliefs;
- Functional Executive Council per Article 23(4) of their mandate should as a matter of urgency call for emergency meeting to consider this petition and study the report by the ASHANTI REGIONAL COUNCIL OF ELDERS
- That the Functional Executive Committee must with immediate effect SUSPEND the Ashanti Regional Chairman Augustus Andrews and the Secretary Kwame for violation of the party’s constitution
- That the Functional Executive Council must with immediate effect remove the regional chairman Augustus Andrews and Kwame Zu from their respective offices as per Article 46 (9c) of the party’s constitution as their continuous stay in office poses a huge threat to the fortunes of the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections
- That the Functional Executive Committee must as a matter of urgency SUSPEND any other executive within the region found of any wrongdoing or anyone used as a conduit or an appendage to these anti-party conduct by these above-mentioned officers of the party.
- That the actions of the Functional Executive Council and the party at large in this issue and their swiftness in delivering justice will advice my next step of ACTION!
