Some well-meaning supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Ablekuma Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, have served notice to the leadership of the part, to take urgent steps to correct some of the ills in the Constituency or the party risk going into the December 7, polls without a parliamentary candidate.
According to the group, the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate, Alhaji Abdul Latiff Dan, is allegedly involved in some fraudulent Visa deals in the Constituency.
The group claims the PC under the pretext of finding foreign teams for the youth, who are willing to travel abroad to play football, collected huge sums of money from these young men and has not been able to make his promise of assisting them travel a reality over the past two years,.
They told this reporter some supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party, are also accusing the PC of fraud using football visa acquisition.
They claim the NPP is using that against Abdul Latiff Dan in the Constituency
They explained that the sitting Member of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party is also scheming to have the NDC’s PC disqualified the very moment, he files his nomination papers at the Electoral Commission (EC), the elections management agency for the December polls.
The group who spoke on strict condition of anonymity, revealed that some regional executives of NDC, are aware of what IS going on in the Constituency
The group further mentioned the Regional Secretary of the party, Theophilius Tetteh Chai, who was onetime MP for the area, as being aware of the situation in the Constituency.
A petition has been sent to the national executive and copied the PC, asking some seven questions.
They claim in the petition that the PC does not attend meetings.
He has no posters in the area and he is not known in the area.
They claimed, August 24, was exactly one year since, the PC was elected but till date, many do not know him as their PC, including NDC members.
They claimed that the directives by the leadership of the party for stalwarts to adopt Constituencies, has not happened in the Ablekuma Central Constituency because of the leadership style of the PC.
Reacting to some of the allegations raised by members of his constituents, the PC told this reporter that the allegations are a figment of the imagination of the members who claim to be seeking the interest of the party in the Constituency.
“Let me, remind you that I won the NDC’s primary in the area with over two hundred votes on my first attempt as an aspirant,” he said.
According to him; if branch executives are not active, it is not the work of the PC to be organizing branch meetings.
When asked how his campaign was fairing, he minced no words to say the campaign is catching up with members of the constituents, especially with his house-to-house campaign every evening.
When this reporter questioned him on his alleged involvement in a football visa deal, he retorted by saying that “this was a business I did some eighteen years ago”.
I never dealt with anybody as an individual; all I did was on behalf of a football club.
He, however, failed to mention the name of the football club.
“Am really prepared to sue anybody who tries to drag my name in the mud using these frivolous allegations,” he threatened.
He warned this reporter to distance himself from these allegations
When this reporter reminded him of an existing petition about his candidature in the Constituency, he denied knowing about a petition, saying he carries himself and operate as the NDC’s PC elect.
