Last Saturday, the people of Osu were greeted with a very grand and colorful durbar to mark the occasion of the installation of the new Osu Chief Nótsè Nii Nortey Owuo IV, nearly a year after of the demise of the late Chief Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI.
After his nomination which had gone through rigorous screening and careful considerations before his acceptance or endorsement by the Osu Kinkawe Dzaase, the newly installed Chief Nòtsè Nii Nortey Owuo IV also known in private life as Prof. Bernard Nii Nortey Botswe went through the ritual of confinement in a room for over a week.
At dawn of the last day, he was taken to the sea side for the final rites where he was given a ‘spiritual’ bath to cleanse him and to usher him into his new world as the Paramount Chief of the people of Osu.
In unanimity and concord, all the four various Quarters namely Osu Kinkawe, Osu Alata, Osu Ashante and Osu Anorhor, were largely and fairly present at the occasion of the installation to lend their support and to show solidarity.
Ensconced majestically in his Chair and in his full regalia and giving his first inaugural speech, Nótsé Nii Nortey Owuo IV expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation for the trust and confidence reposed in him by the Council of Elders and the Dzaase and promised never to turn his back on them or disappoint them.
He said, “going forward we are all aware of the myriad of issues confronting Osu especially the cracks in the various Dzaase which has affected the youth. I promised to reduce unemployment in the area and improve infrastructural development and mainly the low levels of education amongst our young ones.”
“However, I am most certain that with the mercies and grace of God, the good and glorious days of Osu is not behind us, it’s rather before us and therefore let’s all forge ahead in unity to achieve this common goal of making Osu great again”, Nii Owuo IV admonished.
In attendance to grace the occasion was the Osiahene himself Nii Nortey Adumuah IV, the Kinkawe Dzaase and some chiefs and representatives of chiefs from within Greater Accra and Akropong.
