The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Tema West Constituency, Mr. Dennis AmfoSefah Popularly Called Nana Boakye, has called on the National Executive Committee (NEC) to investigate NPP MPs over the vote against the President’s and Party’s Nominee during the elections for the Speaker of Parliament and render them the necessary punishment.
According to the Chairman, this action by the NPP MPs will set a precedent for others to follow if the necessary actions are not taken and it will descend to the Party’s grassroots to encourage more skirt and blouse voting in the near future.
“How can we get 136 out of our 137 MPs who won on the ticket of NPP”? Whoever that decided to go contrary against the Party’s decision should be suspended from the Party and make his/her seat vacant for bye-elections”, the Constituency Chairman of Tema West where Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah is the MP, Nana Boakye Opined.
Rt. Hon. Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, polled 136 votes out of the 275 votes cast by Members of Parliament elected on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
“I can’t fathom how, there are 137 MPs in Parliament on the ticket of the NPP and if for nothing at all the Party’s nominee for the Speakership should have pulled 137”, the Tema business mogul noted.
“If you can vote against the Party’s and President Nominee then it’s a clear indication that you don’t love the NPP hence you have no business been in Parliament on the ticket of the NPP”, Nana Boakye fumed.
Rt. Hon. AlgbanBagbin emerged victorious over his opponent, Professor Mike Oquaye who was the Speaker of Parliament of the previous 7th Parliament.
According to Nana Boakye, he believes the independent MP from Fomena voted for the President’s and NPP nominee, Professor Mike Oquaye, hence there were 2 NPP MPs who voted against. He is therefore calling on the national party to as a matter of urgency, investigate and sanction those MPs to serve as a deterrent for others who have plans to do same in the future or else this kind of behavior will trickle down to the grassroots.
