A survey conducted by Advocates for Good Governance and Proper Democracy, a Policy Think Tank, has placed Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi ahead of all the other candidates vying for the National chairmanship position of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Think Tank’s six months survey about who is likely to lead the ruling NPP in 2022 ahead of Election 2024 saw Professor Christopher Ameyaw garnering 59.12% score during the survey.
According to the group, its checks revealed that Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi stood tall and had an advantage over the other contestants because of his background.
Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, the group stated, per its survey, is best placed to serve the party at the National level to be able to lead the party to win more parliamentary seats for the party and can break the 8year jinx.

SURVEY BY ADVOCATES FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE AND PROPER DEMOCRACY ON THE IMPENDING NPP NATIONAL ELECTION IN JULY 2022
PROFFESOR CHRISTOPHER AMEYAW SCORES 59.12% MARKS AHEAD OF OTHER ASPIRANTS TO LEAD NPP TO VICTORY 2024—-REPORT
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of the Media we called you here this afternoon to present to you an account of our six months Survey about who is eligible to lead the ruling NPP in 2022 ahead of Election 2024.
To start with Advocates for Good Governance and Proper Democracy is a nonpolitical Policy Think Tank which main aim is to help deepen our Democracy in the Country.
This group consist of a team of a variety of professionals and has been in existence since 2014.
Our investigation shows that Eight (8) people have so far shown interest in contesting for the NPP National Chairmanship Position.
WHAT THE RESPONDENTS TOLD OUR TEAM ABOUT THE ASPIRANTS
- Prof Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi
Our checks reveals that Prof .Ameyaw Akumfi stands tall and have an advantage over the other contestants because of his background and where he comes come because no National Executive apart from Alhaji Moctar Bamba who hails from Wenchi served as a National Organizer, Mr Stephen Ntim former National Vice Chairman from Dormaa and that if Lawyer Obiri Boahen current Deputy General Secretary of the NPP comes from the Bono Enclave therefore an advantage for Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi to serve the party at the National level to be able to lead the party to win more parliamentary seats for the party and can break the 8year jinx.
Another advantage for Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi over the aspirants that he can’t be tagged to be aligned to any of the factions in the party and has been able to work under former president J.A Kuffour and Nana Addo without been tagged with corruption.
- Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim
Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim is a founding member of the Npp and was once former first (1st) vice Chairman, very humble and soft-spoken type. He is liked by some party faithful but his shortfall the respondents said he is linked to Alan faction and when President Nana Addo called him secretly to step down for the current chairman Freddy blay to lead the party, In 2018, he want on Citi FM that he won’t accept it which majority of the respondent said he is not secretive enough to lead the party and not seen as a unifier.
- Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng
Asabee as he is affectionately called was very popular in the elsewhere former president Kuffours ear and has not been participating recently on national issues.
- Kwabena Abankwa
Per our checks Abankwa Yeboah would have won again as a National Treasurer for the party because he is widely known for his financial accuracy but can handle the affairs of the party for now with only 4.1% rooting for his bid to be chairman.
- Joseph Nii Ayikoo Otoo
The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice became firth in our survey because of his role he played in the 2012 NPP election petition to the supreme court but majority of the respondents said after 2016 election when he was made Ghana ambassador to Canada he is not been active that he can’t lead the party to break the Eight (8).
- Akwasi Osei Adjei
A former foreign affairs minister and a former member of parliament for Ejisu – Juaben is not all that known in the NPP only that when he was cleared in 2011 for no wrongful act of causing financial loss to the State after been charged by the then Mills NDC governing for stealing, abuse of public office, conspiracy to commit crime for importing rice into the country after a ban. Majority of the respondents said is not actively involved in party activities since 2009 hence he can lead the party.
- Sammy Crabbe
Sammy Crabbe a former second national vice chairman of the party who was suspended together with Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong in 2015 for an antiparty conduct majority of the respondents said he is not trust worthy and can destabilized the party if he is elected as national chairman with only 1.38% of them said he is competent enough to be elected.
- Daavi Ama Gifty Asante Ayeh Representing (1.34%)
67 respondents thought Daavi Ama a former national treasurer of NPP stands the chance to be National chairperson of the party for a balance in gender equality which majority of them said this is not time for gender equality affair hence she should have vied for a different position because breaking the eight (8) is not a women affair hence should have stepped down.
SURVEY METHODOLOGY
From January 1st 2022 to June 30th 2022 our team consisting of thirty-three (33) persons interviewed Five thousand (5,000) delegates including, Regional Executives, Ministers, Constituency Executives, Council of Elders and Patrons across all the 275 Constituencies in the 16 Regions of Ghana.
The Respondents who were chosen at random said they want almost a complete overhaul of the national executives of the party 4,221 representing (91.7%) said they want to vote for new National Executives because they think the current leadership style affected the 2020 General Election as compared to the 2016 Elections while 701 (7.01%) said they want to maintain only 10% of the current Executives and 78 (1.2%) said they want the party to maintain all the current leadership.
The percentages of the aspirants is as follows:

REMMENDATIONS
Advocates for Good Governance and Proper Democracy recommends the following to the New Patriotic Party if they want to break the 8 year jinx in December 2024.
(i) NPP should expand the Electoral College to allow preferably all card bearing members to vote in any National, Regional and Constituency Elections to avoid vote buying.
(ii) About 90% of the current leadership should change to bring in new faces.
(iii) Campaign ahead of 2024 should be devoid of insults
(iv) A unifier should be elected as a Chairman to lead the party.
(v) All internal wrangling should be solve at least one year before 2024 General Elections.
(vi) Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi is a man of integrity and command a lot of respect among the rank and file of the NPP and very appealing to flouting voters, very intelligent, humble, resilient, accommodating, influential, determined and focused on any field of play. Therefore, making him appealing to the NPP.
Checks by Advocates for Good Governance and Proper Democracy revealed that, the learned Prof.is Tolerant, down to earth, funds and resource mobilization person, humbled, selfless, tried and tested, unifier etc.
To this end the veteran politician has already taken the lead by engaging party bigwigs, stalwarts, grassroots as to how to break the Eight-year jinx in 2024 which none of his other competitors have failed to do after the 2020 General Elections.
Profile of the Winner
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi was born on 21th August 1945
Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region. He is currently the Board Chairman for public procurement authority (PPA) after serving as Board chairman for Ghana infrastructure Investment Fund (G.I.I.F) in the first term of Nana Addo.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is a well-respected academician with long standing involvement in an evolutionary educational process.
He attended the Adisadel College in Cape-Coast for his GCE O’ and A’ Levels before entering the University of Ghana in 1965 obtaining a B.Sc. Hons in Zoology in 1969. He pursued his Masters in Zoology at the same University and completed the course in a year in 1970. He left the shores of Ghana for the United States specifically the University of Michigan in 1972 where he spent four years studying for MS in Zoology and a Ph.D. in Zoology.
His contributions to the educational sector are well manifest not only in his present position as Minister for Education but also in his days as a lecturer at the University of Cape-Coast. He has participated in a number of activities related to Higher Education in Ghana.
He co-coordinated the introduction of the Semester and Course Unit System at the University of Cape-Coast as well as the production of academic programmes for the University College of Education, Winneba in the Central Region. He chaired various committees at the University and acted as Vice-Chancellor in the absence of the substantive Vice-Chancellor during his tenure as the Pro Vice-Chancellor.
One significant activity he undertook in relation to Higher Education when he served as the Chairman of the Committee to Review Staffing in the Polytechnics.
He presented a lead paper on Decentralization at the University at a Seminar for University Administration under the auspices of the Tertiary Education Project.
Also presented appear on University Financing at a workshop on Tertiary Education Financing in Akosombo in 1966.
He has attended many conferences in and out and outside Ghana where he presented papers on Science Education. He has to his credit twenty-six publications on various topics in Biology.
Awards obtained include the following: The University of Ghana, Scholar, 1969-1970, AFGRAD Scholar, University of Michigan 1972-1977 Senior Research Fellow, Common wealth Academic Staff Fellowship at University College of North Wales Bengor1984-1985 and Fulbright Scholar- Marine Research Laboratory Bodega Bay University Of California.
He is currently a member of several professional bodies, including, the Ghana Science Association, West African Science Association, and Crustacean Society. A past member of the New York Academy of Sciences as well as the International Association Of Astocologists and American Society of Zoologist. He is currently the Vice President of Ghana Institute of Biology.
On national level, he served as a member on the National Committee on Fisheries, Ghana National Oceanographic Committee, University Rationalization Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of New Times Corporation.
He is the current Chairman of Natural Science Committee of the National Commission on UNESCO and he served as the Vice Chairman for Commission III at the 28th UNESCO Conference held in Paris, France in 1995. He participated in the National Economic Forum in 1997 and served as a member of the Post Forum Committee set up to prepare a final document on the forum. He has also served as Chairman of the Sunyani Polytechnics Council.
Until his appointment as the Minister of Education he was the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service. He was the Dean at the Faculty of Science, University of Cape Coast and Policy Adviser to the Ministry of Education. In his first two years as Director -General, he and his team succeeded in getting newly recruited teachers to be paid their allowances the first month they reported for duty. The teacher Education has been reorganized to place emphasis on attachment programmes.
He plans in future to lead a reformation of the Ghana Education Service in areas of resource management and motivation for the teacher, which will contribute, to the overall improvement in education delivery in the country.
An approved restructuring of the Ghana Education Service is to be implemented this year. The new structure seeks to recruit professionals to head Financial Management, Human Resources and Procurement Divisions of the Ghana Education Service.
He was moved from the Minister for Education in April 2003 to Ports and Habours ministry by Former President Kuffour till the end of his second term.
He became the Member of Parliament (M.P) for Techiman North from 2008-2012 and has been an active campaign team member since the birth.
